DOW NUC Receives Core Partner Award from Furukawa

New York - October 04, 2011

Nippon Unicar Company, Ltd. (NUC), a 50/50 JV between The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE:DOW) and Tonen Chemical, has received a Core Partner Award from Furukawa Electric. This award is one of only five Core Partner awards given by Furakawa each year

Furukawa is a diversified manufacturer with strengths in wire and cable production, electronics & automotive systems, energy and industrial products. Receiving the Core Partner designation entitles NUC to multiple benefits including a preferential negotiation position and opportunities to meet senior management within Furukawa. This is the fifth consecutive year that NUC has received this important valued supplier award.

Furukawa executes an annual evaluation program to identify five Core Partners from among 3,000 suppliers. NUC was selected as a Core Partner based on superior quality and service, stable supply and excellent CSR record. NUC has consecutively won this award each year since 2006 when this evaluation system was introduced. In addition, NUC also won the “Award for Excellence” from Furukawa in the past two years.

Dow E&T, which has been supplying the global power industry for nearly 60 years, works closely with NUC in the R&D, production and sales of polyethylene compounds that go primarily into high- and extra-high voltage power cables manufactured and used throughout Japan and Asia.
