Inauguration Marks Opening of New Business Venture for Juffali and Dow

Tailored PU Solutions for Customers in The Kingdom

On March 28th, the new Arabian Chemical Polyurethane Systems House, a branch of Juffali Chemical Products Co. ,Ltd., was inaugurated in Jeddah with a ceremony attended by guests including customers from across Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries as well as business executives from The Dow Chemical Company and E.A. Juffali & Bros.. Special guests included Sheikh Hatem Ali Juffali, chairman of the Juffali Chemical Group, Mr. Amin Al Afifi, CEO Juffali Group, Markus Wildi, president Dow Middle East and Dr. Zuhair Allawi, vice president Dow Saudi Arabia Co.

The new Polyurethane (PU) Systems House plant will produce Dow polyurethane systems for various applications and will contribute to Dow Formulated System's global network of more than 30 system houses around the world.

The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Souhail El Farouki, General Manager of Juffali Chemical Group who addressed the audience and spoke about the history with Dow and planning for this facility. He was followed by remarks from Dr. Zuhair Allawi and Mr. Jon Penrice, Dow Formulated Systems general manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

"We have been partnering with Dow in a variety of businesses since 1976, and this important alliance allows us to further strengthen our relationship, increasing our ability to sustain the dynamic growth of our customers in this region. By investing in a new dedicated manufacturing plant in Jeddah, E.A. Juffali and Brothers ultimately strive to facilitate our loyal customers' success in their respective markets, anticipating their needs and helping them fulfill their aspirations" said Dr. Souhail El Farouki.

Dow Formulated Systems, a global business unit of The Dow Chemical Company and Saudi Arabian industrial conglomerate E.A. Juffali & Brothers signed the alliance for the Arabian Chemical Polyurethane Systems House in 2010. The two companies have three long-standing joint ventures, the earliest dating back to 1976.

Immediately following the ceremony, guests were given a tour of the new facility which featured an exhibition of end products utilizing the formulated systems produced at the new Arabian Chemical Polyurethane Systems House plant. The samples on display ranged from refrigerators, insulation boards, furnishing, heaters, coolers, decorative material to footwear and gave guests a preview of the typical end uses as well as the diversity of PU applications.

"This project marks an important milestone for Dow in Saudi Arabia and emphasizes Dow's commitment to this geographic area and this market where the value of innovation and technology are recognized" said Dr. Allawi, "It will further enhance our ability to combine our innovation, technology, and know how in the PU systems business with the entrepreneurial spirit and local market knowledge of Juffali to deliver tailor made solutions to our customers throughout the region."

Jon Penrice commented on the business alliance with Juffali after the ceremony, "This alliance reinforces Dow Formulated Systems' commitment to our customers and the industries we serve in the Middle East. The state-of-the-art facility will help expand Dow's market leadership and deliver innovative solutions and excellent service to customers in the strategic markets of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region."
