Interim Response Work Plan for West Michigan Park
BackgroundThe Interim Response Activities (IRAs) outlined in this document addresses the initial work to be taken in West Michigan Park in Saginaw Township, Saginaw County. The actions outlined in this document were developed, and will be implemented, in cooperation with park officials and the MDEQ.
The Park
West Michigan Park is in Saginaw Township between Michigan Avenue and the Tittabawassee River. The park is approximately 18 acres in size and includes a large expanse of open grass, a soccer field, picnic areas, play equipment, a fishing dock platform and river access. The riverbank is relatively steep and has sparse vegetation.
IRA Plans
The following actions are planned:
- Hand Wash Stations were installed to reduce the potential for exposure.
- The boat launch area will have additional stone placed to minimize erosion and cover exposed soils;
- Park access near wash station/rest room will have stone placed over exposed soils;
- Trees sloping toward river along bank will be trimmed or removed to prevent bank damage;
- Grassy areas throughout the park will be fertilized to enhance grass growth;
- Sand will be added to children's play areas to ensure soil coverage.
Park officials expect that these items will be completed during 2004. Dow will reimburse the Township for costs incurred.
