Acid Removal

Potable Water: Acids can be selectively removed from potable water with a weak base anion exchange resin like DOWEX™ MONOSPHERE™ 77. The resin removes the acid without adding salt. DOWEX MONOSPHERE 77 can be easily regenerated with base to be used many cycles. DOWEX MONOSPHERE 77 meets CFR 173.25 requirements for use in drinking water and food contact. Waste Water: For waste water, industrial grade DOWEX M-43 is recommended for removing acids from water. It is a very durable resin, easily regenerated for economical removal of acids.

Corrosion Control: Corrosion is a common concern in modern industrial facilities. Whether it is a brand new plant or an aging facility, making equipment last is a top priority. Computers and electronic systems are very sensitive to corrosive acid vapors. The cost and expense of corrosion can be the result of lost production, unnecessary repairs and maintenance and premature replacement of equipment.

Many facilities deal with corrosion by neutralization with base. However, precision neutralization is not always easy and the resultant neutralized salts stay in the process stream, contributing to sludge and other disposal costs.

An alternative method is to use DOWEX M-43 anion exchange resin, which acts as an acid absorber. This is because it is an immobilized base. It removes acid from solution and neutralizes, but releases nothing back into the solution that will make a sludge or change the process stream.

DOWEX M-43 resin has an acid absorbing capacity of >1.55 equivalents of acid per liter of the resin, which means it can adsorb HCl to more than 9% of the resin weight. DOWEX M-43 resin is a versatile acid absorber, removing both mineral and organic acids, such as HCl, HBr, HF, HI, H₂SO₄, H₃ PO₄, acetic, formic, propionic, and benzoic acid.

XUS 43568.00 is a higher capacity acid absorber that is well suited to remove phosphoric acid from phosphate ester lubricants. The higher capacity means longer service life for the media.

Acids can be removed from organic process streams with DOWEX M-43 resin, the resin is to be dried before use.

DOWEX M-43 resin is also effective in removing acids from air. It has a porous surface and the beads can be incorporated into a filter, placed between two screens or held in an open tray.
