DOWEX Ion Exchange Resins for Separation of Alkali Metals from Liquid Media

Alkali Metals
Sodium - Na Potassium - K
Rubidium - Rb Cesium - Cs
Francium - Fr

Alkali metal ions are mono-valent cations and are generally sorbed by cation exchange resins.

Applications

Water/Wastewater: Removal of alkali metals from water and organic solvents via ion exchange is common in chemical, petrochemical, oil refining, semiconductor manufacturing, and power utility plants. In waters with low levels of dissolved salts, strongly acidic cation exchange resins such as DOWEX™ G-26 (H) cation exchange resin are employed. Under alkaline conditions, a weak acid cation exchange resin such as DOWEX MAC-3 will provide higher capacity and easier regeneration.

Alkali metals can be removed from water with reverse osmosis membranes.
