DW&PS has a 50 year legacy of providing innovative water and process solutions to both communities and industries alike. In addition to being the world’s largest manufacturer of reverse osmosis (RO) water purification membranes it is now also a leading provider of a broad portfolio of ion exchange resins, reverse osmosis membranes, ultrafiltration membranes and electrodeionization products, with strong positions in a number of major application areas. Dow’s high-performance FILMTEC™ membranes are operational in some of the most water-challenged areas of the world including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. The Shoaiba Barge SeaWater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) plant is one of Saudi Arabia’s largest RO seawater desalination plants and the world’s largest sea-based desalination plant. Shoaiba produces more than 50,000 m3/day using FILMTEC™ membrane elements. Over the years, improvements in Dow’s FILMTEC™ RO membrane elements have provided a threefold increase in the amount of treated water per element while reducing energy costs in desalination and other water purification and re-use projects around the world. Desalination plants with Dow technology enable hundreds of million gallons of freshwater per day in many sites around the globe contributing to achieve Dow’s overarching goal to further reduce the cost and energy-intensity of seawater desalination by 35 percent by 2015.
