Dow Water & Process Solutions to Launch ROSA 7.0, Showcase Expertise at EDS Conference

Minneapolis, MN - May 13, 2009

Dow Water & Process Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) and a global leader in water purification, seawater desalination, contamination removal and water reuse solutions, will showcase its expertise during the 2009 EDS Conference and Exhibition in Baden-Baden, Germany, May 17-20.

As part of the event, Dow Water & Process Solutions will launch the newest version of its Reverse Osmosis System Analysis (ROSA) software program with an overview presentation on Monday May 17, 4:30-6:00pm (technical session 8). ROSA 7.0 includes new features like:

  • permeate split-stream calculations that can model more economical partial two pass designs than formerly possibly with conventional blending
  • internally-staged design (ISD) configurations, allowing for two or more element types within the same pressure vessel to balance vessel hydraulics and maximize system production
  • advanced, industry-leading modeling of seasonal temperature ranges on long-term membrane performance
  • user-defined pre-stage pressure drop
  • improved element value analysis

Small group in-booth trainings on Tuesday and Wednesday will allow participants and visitors to get familiar with the new features of ROSA 7.0.

Industry experts from Dow Water & Process Solutions will share best practices in applying innovative, technology-based solutions to seawater desalination, process water, municipal waste water and industrial water reuse applications involving ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO) technology during the following conference sessions:

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

9:30 am (Session 10) First year performance review of Makung UF/RO seawater desalination plant
- Veronica García-Molina, application development engineer

12:30 pm (Session 13)  Performance of outside-in pressurized ultrafiltration in Qingdao pilot test
- Markus Busch, global application development leader desalination

2:30 pm (Session 20)  Removal of illicit and pharmaceutical drugs from municipal waste water using reverse osmosis membranes
- Katariina Majamaa, application development engineer

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

10:00 am (Session 27) Industrial water reuse with integrated membrane system increases the sustainability of the chemical manufacturing
- Katariina Majamaa, application development engineer

To encourage student participation at the event, Dow Water & Process Solutions will sponsor a prize of 500 Euros for the best student paper presented at the EDS conference. It will be awarded at the closing ceremony on Wednesday, May 20, 2:30 pm.
