DOW™ Ultrafiltration Membranes Overcome Pretreatment ChallengesMembranes are economical answer to high turbidity, iron concentrate and total suspended solids Edina, MN - December 02, 2008 In order to combat high turbidity, elevated iron concentration and a large amount of total suspended solids, the GuanYinShan cogeneration facility has chosen DOW™ Ultrafiltration membranes to pretreat feed water for the reverse osmosis process. The 49 megawatt (MW) co-gen facility handles the generation, installation and repair of electrical services for the JiangShu province in China. Since 2007, the DOW membranes have successfully produced desirable reverse osmosis feed water without the need for other pretreatment processes. The single pretreatment results in an average product water turbidity of 0.12 Nephelometric Turbidity Unit (NTU) and silt density index (SDI) of less than three for the municipality. "The GuanYinShan facility faces huge challenges in producing boiler feed water while generating reliable and stable energy for the growing community," said Christina Fang, area commercial development manager, Dow Water Solutions. "Using the DOW Ultrafiltration membranes as a single pretreatment method facilitates stable reverse osmosis membrane performance resulting in an economical and reliable water treatment system for this ground water source." This DOW Ultrafiltration solution consists of SFP-2860 modules. To learn more about DOW Ultrafiltration, or view this case study in its entirety, visit www.dowwatersolutions.com.
