Collaboration Thrives at Second EO/EG Global Technology Exchange Meeting

Dow and licensees for METEOR™ Ethylene Oxide/Ethylene Glycol (EO/EG) Process Technology met from October 17-21 in San Francisco, California, to discuss technology improvements and share learnings for continuous improvement. The meeting was attended by approximately 70 participants and included representation from several companies including OPTIMAL, EQUATE, MEGlobal, The Kuwait Olefins Company, Zhenhai Refining & Petrochemical Co. Ltd., Sinopec-SABIC (Tianjin) Petrochemical Co. Ltd., and Dow.
A Hub for Collaboration
The meeting was an excellent forum for collaboration, with presentations by both Dow representatives and the licensees, consultations with subject matter experts, and one-on-one technology exchanges for each licensee.
The objective of the Global Technology Exchange Meeting was to share METEOR™ EO/EG Technology improvements with licensees that could be applied in their own facilities. Improvement topics included safety, METEOR flowsheet improvements such as emission reductions and equipment simplification, and METEOR™ HEXTEO for pure Ethylene Oxide production. In addition, METEOR™ plant project summaries were presented by the 3 new licensees that successfully started up their facilities during the last 4 years adding 1.3 million tonnes of EOE capacity.
About METEOR™
The METEOR™ EO/EG Process Technology consists of a revolutionary process and catalysts for the production of ethylene oxide (EO) and ethylene glycol (EG). The technology combines high performance catalysts with a streamlined process design that uses a single EO reactor to deliver output capacities higher than other available commercial technologies, resulting in lower total investment cost and higher raw material efficiency.
