Howard Ungerleider is Executive Vice President of The Dow Chemical Company.
Ungerleider is a member of Dow’s most senior executive committee and has been instrumental in transforming Dow to a more market-driven, innovative and technology-led enterprise. Through his oversight of Dow’s Advanced Materials businesses, Ungerleider has focused the enterprise on using its deep science capabilities to be more innovative and collaborative as it delivers needs-based solutions for Dow’s customers and the world. He is also a leading proponent for creating sustainable solutions that support both business objectives and customer demands.
Under his guidance, the Advanced Materials businesses total more than $11 billion in sales across more than 130 countries and industry-leading businesses including: Dow Electronic Materials, Dow Coating Materials, Performance Monomers, Dow Building Solutions, Dow Construction Chemicals, Dow Microbial Control, Dow Pharma & Food Solutions, Dow Consumer & Industrial Solutions, and Dow Water & Process Solutions.
Ungerleider has executive oversight for Dow Latin America and is a vocal advocate for a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace for all employees, serving as the Executive Sponsor for the Company’s largest employee network, GLAD – the Gays, Lesbians & Allies at Dow Network.
Ungerleider joined Dow in 1990 and his career has spanned a wide variety of commercial, business, financial, geographic, functional and enterprise-level leadership roles globally. In 1997 he moved to Dow's European headquarters in Switzerland, where he held management responsibilities for several of Dow's specialty polyolefin brands. Ungerleider was named business director for Dow's global Wire and Cable Compounds business in 2000, and in 2004 became the global director of Integrated Supply Chain for Plastics, Performance Chemicals and Thermosets. In 2006, he was appointed North American commercial vice president for Dow's $6 billion Basic Plastics business portfolio.
From 2008 to 2011, Ungerleider served as vice president of Investor Relations, where he was responsible for creating and driving an investor outreach program about Dow's strategic transformation and performance in the midst of the worst global economic crisis in decades. In this role, he was also a member of the Finance leadership team, providing counsel and support to Dow's Chief Financial Officer. He was named president for the Performance Plastics Division in 2011 and assumed his current role in 2012.
Ungerleider earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas in Austin and a Master's degree in Business Administration from University of California in Los Angeles. He serves on the Member's Committee of Dow AgroSciences as well as on the Boards of Directors of Wolverine Bancorp (NASDAQ: WBKC), Dow Corning Corporation, Mid-Michigan Baseball Foundation, and Keep America Beautiful.
