Dow’s unique combination of products, processing technologies and engineering capabilities enable customers to achieve their design goals, improve performance, lower costs, reduce weight and enhance aesthetics. Our products are used in a long list of automotive applications including electrical systems, sealing systems, body panels, front and rear systems, interior trim, and structural components.
BREAKTHROUGH INNOVATION
- We are developing technology using an advanced ceramic material which is very porous and can be used as a particulate trap, allowing diesel engines to beat the increasingly stringent environmental standards. This will facilitate further expanding their acceptance in the transportation sector. This product removes particulates better than any existing filter, improving fuel economy and engine performance, which lowers gas emissions and
CO2 per mile. This unique solution is green, profitable, and it performs.
- Dow’s IMPAXX™ foam is an innovative solution that improves vehicle safety and crashworthiness in every Car of Tomorrow. IMPAXX™ Energy Absorbing Foam is designed to compress, buckle and exhibit controlled fracture, ultimately improving overall vehicle safety. Additional safety material considerations include weight savings, efficiency, temperature stability, cost of tooling and design, and time to market. NASCAR teams need reliable, lightweight materials that deliver results quickly. Dow Automotive engineers worked with NASCAR for 18 months to refine and test IMPAXX™ for use in the Car of Tomorrow.
- We recently announced a new process that will use glycerin, which is a byproduct from the manufacture of a biodiesel made from vegetable oil. GTE, or glycerin-to-epi is a process through which glycerin will be converted into epichlorohydrin and used to make marine coatings, electronic circuit boards, boat hulls and more. Not only does this process eliminate petrochemical feedstocks, but through creative process engineering, we will reduce energy consumption by over 20% and decrease water usage by more than 50%.
