The sun delivers more energy in one hour than our entire planet can use in a year – and its clean power with no carbon emissions.  Currently, solar panel technology is held back by the high costs of materials, fabrication, and installation.  Because it involves mounting silicon-based solar cells packaged within heavy glass panels on a roof. The panels are expensive and difficult to install and, while they produce electricity, the cost is many times higher than conventional electricity sold by utility companies. So Dow is developing the next generation of solar energy collection technology called building integrated photovoltaics. By designing the solar materials right into the roofing system, we can produce and install one product that not only provides protection from the elements, but also generates power.
