The Problem
There was a severe problem with airborne noise travelling between two adjacent flats in Prestwich, as the 9-inch brick party wall did not prevent the occupants of flat 79 hearing the television and voices of the occupants of flat 77.

The Solution
IMMOTUS* R+ was installed to the party wall in the dining room and living room of flat 77 (the emission side) and also to the living room wall in flat 79. As the installation of IMMOTUS R+ is quick and clean, the occupants of flats experienced only minor disruption while the walls were being treated.

The Outcome
Testing following installation showed a significant reduction in airborne sound transmission: where IMMOTUS R+ was installed on both sides of the party wall the sound reduction (D'nT,w) improved from 53 dB to 58 dB (D'nT,w) whilst sound reduction for the wall treated on one side improved from 49 dB to 58 dB.

The fact that both treatments gave the same final reduction suggests the remaining sound transmission was taking place through flanking walls or floors and not the party wall.
