Dow Southern Africa Awarded for Outstanding Safety Record

Bryanston, South Africa - May 21, 2009

Dow Southern Africa has been recognized by its parent company with a string of awards relating to its Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) and also Manufacturing and Engineering (M&E) stewardship of its locally-based operations.

Dow Southern Africa was a recipient of several Site Vice President Awards for 2008, a joint recognition from EH&S (Environment Health & Safety) and M&E (Manufacturing & Engineering) for outstanding performance in the areas of Safety and Health, Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC) and Process Safety.

The recipients of these awards were as follows:

President’s Award for Safety and Health (having achieved zero severe incidents)

  • The Dow head office in Bryanston
  • The Dow AgroSciences manufacturing plant in Canelands, KZN
  • Dow Automotive in Port Elizabeth

Vice President’s Award for Process Safety

  • The Dow Sasolburg manufacturing site

Vice Presidents Award in the LOPC category

  • The Dow AgroSciences manufacturing plant in Canelands, KZN

“Last year brought many challenges to our company, and it was easy to get distracted by the unpredictable events that occurred. But these sites continued to put safety as the number one priority and reaffirmed our commitment to local protection of human health and the environment,” commented Dow Southern Africa MD, Sazi Lutseke.
