As a Founding Member of the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) Corporate Social Responsibility Network and with the aim of achieving its 2015 Sustainability Goals in the Middle East, Dow has committed to partnering with EEG in 2008 to support the organization’s noteworthy environmental programs and campaigns.

The EEG is a voluntary, non-government (NGO) organization based in the United Arab Emirates with a vision to protect the environment through education, action programs and community involvement. EEG is the first environmental NGO in the world to be accredited with the ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system.

Dow was a platinum sponsor of the organization’s corporate program held earlier this year. “EEG has been selected as a partner for community outreach as their objectives are directly aligned to Dow’s 2015 sustainability goals; specifically, our local citizenship goal to collaborate with the communities to set meaningful goals in the protection of human health and the environment,” said Louis Vega, Public Affairs Director, IMEA.

“Our partnership with EEG will enable us to support their sustainable development programs such as providing industry knowledge at community workshops or supporting EEG’s well-known clean-up UAE campaign, all aimed at building better, stronger, more sustainable communities,” added Vega.

EEG has outlined the objectives and targets for 2008 as plans for expansion and consolidation of its key objectives in the area of corporate social responsibility. EEG is keen to engage more deeply with the private sector at an exciting time in the region wherein CSR is emerging even stronger as bearing positive outcomes for both the corporation and the public at large. This year’s agenda also includes for further collaboration with International Institutions; the launching of a CSR best practice award for the Middle East; the official launch of the GCC local network of the UN Global Compact as well as bringing out key UN Global Compact publications in Arabic.

On February 27, the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) presented Dow with an award recognizing Dow’s commitment and partnership with the EEG in protecting the environment. John Dearborn, President for India, Middle East and Africa (IMEA), received the award on behalf of Dow from His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, former Minister of Environment and Water and Habiba Al Marashi, chairperson of EEG at the Gala Dinner.
