Dow Wire & Cable to Showcase Electric Infrastructure Reliability Advances Achieved by North Delhi Power Limited

Mumbai - January 06, 2010

A presentation on advances in the system reliability of North Delhi Power Limited’s (NDPL) electric infrastructure achieved by converting to Water Tree Retardant Crosslinked Polyethylene (TR-XLPE) cable insulation materials from Dow Wire & Cable will be one of the highlights of a Dow hosted seminar in Mumbai on January 21, 2010. The seminar, presented concurrently with Elecrama, India’s largest international exhibition of electrical and industrial electronics, will also provide an overview of India’s power cable industry and an introduction to the DOW ENDURANCE™ family of long-lasting semiconductive and insulation materials for medium voltage (MV), high voltage (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) cable constructions.

“The use of TR-XLPE insulating material by NDPL is a significant demonstration of the potential for widespread system reliability improvement across India’s electric utility infrastructure,” said Tim Laughlin, general manager for Dow Wire & Cable, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company.

DOW ENDURANCE MV 4202 is an extra clean water tree-retardant crosslinked polyethylene (TR-XLPE) for use in medium voltage electricity distribution cables. NDPL converted to this material for its 11kV, 33kV and 66kV power cables over three years ago, changing its specification for medium voltage cable insulating material in the process.

“Following this conversion we have high expectations for the life expectancy of cables made with TR-XLPE insulation” said Ramakrishna Singh, assistant general manager for project engineering and contracts at North Delhi Power Limited.

The DOW ENDURANCE product family comprises Dow Wire & Cable’s heritage line of MV, HV and EHV materials. To further reinforce this product family, Dow Wire & Cable has instituted a new program, called Dow Inside, the purpose of which is to work closely with selected cable manufacturers to produce reliable cables that can meet new rigorous performance specifications that even may exceed the current minimum requirements.

Attendance at the seminar being conducted by Dow Wire & Cable in Mumbai on January 21 is by invitation only.
