Mumbai - August 10, 2009
In its continued efforts to highlight the company’s commitment towards sustainable development, Dow India sponsored “ECOTRAIL”, a two-day environmental science training workshop for school teachers in the Navi Mumbai and Thane area. Conducted by Trailblazers Adventure Travel Pvt. Ltd in Mumbai, the program was designed to enhance educator’s understanding of environment science in line with the Mumbai schools curriculum, equipping them with the requisite tools to train their students on the importance of the environment.
More than 50 teachers participated in the interactive workshop which included innovative teaching methods such as nature games, nature music, herbarium making and soil study. The interesting and informative program is designed so that it can be easily replicated in the class room without any additional teaching aids.
“Environmental science is a recent addition to the Mumbai schools curriculum. Through this workshop we aim to multiply the message by training teachers who will in turn instruct their students in this important topic,” said Mahesh Gopalsamudram, site leader Polyurethane System House, Kalwa. “Through this group of 50 teachers, we have effectively reached out to more than 8,000 children in the community, to help build environmental consciousness that will ultimately aid the formation of sustainable communities.”
Established in 1994, Trailblazers is the first privately-run enterprise focused on environment education in India using a wide variety of methods such as Eco-camps, learning and adventure programmes to share knowledge and experience to make people more aware of the environment.
