Mumbai, India - May 26, 2009
Dow’s legacy Rohm & Haas manufacturing plant in Taloja, India was recently awarded the Greentech Foundation's Silver Medal for Safety Excellence in 2008 as part of the Greentech Fire, Safety & Security Expo in Goa. These awards are given for outstanding performance and achievements in the field of environmental management and industrial fire safety & security.
This is the second time the Taloja location has been recognized for its environment, health & safety (EH&S) achievements following its 2007 Silver Award for Sustainability. Applications for the awards are evaluated on the basis of performance in the award year as well as their track record for the two preceding years.
“The Greentech award is admirable third party recognition and endorsement for our dedication to safety at the Taloja site,” said Anil Gupta, Taloja site leader. “Maintaining an ongoing commitment to safety is our number one concern, and we look forward to continued excellence and recognition for our efforts in this key focus area.”
During the Expo, Gupta also gave a presentation entitled “Behaviour-Based Safety” which discussed how the Rohm & Haas safety journey makes a direct impact on day-to-day plant activities and highlighting the importance of a strong EH&S focus for manufacturing locations.
The Taloja site was inaugurated in 2003 and is located in Taloja on the outskirts of Mumbai, India. The site houses manufacturing for two businesses in the Dow Advanced Materials portfolio, Coatings and Adhesives & Functional Polymers. Manufacturing more than 40 individual products, the site produces material for sales to both the domestic Indian market as well as for export to the Middle East region.
The Greentech Foundation is a non-profit organization promoting dissemination of knowledge in safety environment and has played a pivotal role in motivating India to catch up with global environmental standards since its inception.
