Rajiv Rao has been named Dow India sales director for basic & performance chemicals succeeding Atul Marathe who has been named to a new role as global commercial director for Dow Wolff Cellulosics (DWC) based in the United States. Rao currently serves as regional commercial manager India, Middle East & Africa (IMEA) for ANGUS Chemical Company and Dow Biocides.
Effective June 1, 2009, Rao will be responsible for overseeing all commercial sales activities for the basic and performance chemical portfolios in India and will be based at Dow India’s BKC (Banda Kurla Complex) office in Mumbai.
"Rajiv’s proven impact with customers and value creation across a variety of portfolios makes him an excellent successor to the sales director role in India across the basic & performance chemical portfolios,” said Zuhair Allawi, commercial director IMEA. “The combined benefit of his technical and commercial experience will enhance his capability to do an excellent job in this growth region.”
Rajiv joined Dow in Mumbai, India in 1997 working as a technical service representative (TSR) for the Dow Polyurethane System House (PUSH). In 2001, he was promoted to senior TSR within PUSH and served in this role until 2005 when he became a seller for the polyurethane, performance fluids, and biocides businesses within the Indian Subcontinent, as well as for chemical intermediates and Dow's performance chemicals and thermosets portfolio in Pakistan. He was named to his role as IMEA regional commercial manager for ANGUS and Dow Biocides in 2006. Prior to joining Dow, Rajiv was a process engineer at DIAB Inc., in Dallas, Texas where he was responsible for developing a new rigid structural PU foam and setting up a plant for its production.
Rajiv holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree in chemical engineering from the University of Oklahoma, USA.
