Dow Chemical International Pvt. Ltd. (Dow India) today dedicated a Community Center recently renovated, located at Sathe Nagar, Digha Ward in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation zone in Kalwa at the hands Dr SV Pattiwar, Additional Commissioner, Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner (NMMC), in the presence of Dr Ramesh Ramachandran, president & CEO, Dow India, Chandrakant Nayak, director, Dow Automotive, Mahesh Gopalsamudram, site leader, PU System House and a host of Dow employees and residents of local community. The Dow India site undertook the refurbishment of the Community Center as a part of its social commitment towards the residents of Navi Mumbai.
The Community Center (Samaj Mandir) also doubles up as a crèche (Angan Wadi) managed by NMMC, as a free service for children of the lower income group residing in the locality. Children between the ages of two to ten years, will be nurtured by part time tutors with basic education, games and recreational activities for the all round development of children before starting their school curriculums. The Community Center is equipped to accommodate 60 children, and provide quality nourishment through free of cost mid-day meals.
Dow India supported refurbishing the existing infrastructure of the Community Center as well as providing adequate tools for the social development of the children. The renovation involved replacing floors, painting walls and installing new desks and chairs. The company has also provided a variety of wall charts, green boards, books and play materials to the center.
“Dow India’s association with this project showcases our continued commitment towards the betterment of the communities in which we operate,” said Dr Ramesh Ramachandran during the inauguration. “We are proud to play a role in the lives of the formative years of these children helping to broaden their horizons.”
The refurbishment also included the building of a small congregation area on the pavement outside the center which will be used for meetings of the local community.
