Mumbai - April 15, 2009
With ever-tightening VOC regulations and consumer preferences reaching across the globe, it is increasingly important to use a neutralizing agent that provides the highest quality of physical properties. ANGUS Chemical Company (ANGUS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Dow, announces the addition of AEPD™ VOX 1000 Multifunctional Amine to its portfolio in India, an enhanced primary amine for interior water-based paints with a non-VOC designation that helps formulators address environmental challenges in the paint market.
Initially launched during the Middle East Coatings Show in Dubai in March 2009, AEPD VOX 1000 (amino-ethyl-propanediol) is a low or no-VOC designation product depending on the region, making it an excellent choice as a multifunctional amine for VOC-free paints. The new amine offers customers several important benefits, including:
-
Low odor
-
High boiling point
-
Non-yellowing characteristic
-
Low vapor pressure, and
-
Excellent safety and toxicology profile
“Government regulations and consumer concerns have led to increased demand for low odor, low or VOC-free paint and finishes,” said Rajiv Rao, regional commercial manager for the Angus business, IMEA, Dow Chemical International Pvt Ltd. “Offerings from ANGUS such as AEPD VOX 1000 and AMP™ simply reinforce our commitment to bringing customers multifunctional amines that can help them meet current and future challenges of the marketplace without compromising the quality or the performance of their product offering.”
Chemically similar to AMP (2-Amino-2-methyl-1-propanol), AEPD VOX 1000 demonstrates similar functionality. However, it exhibits an additional hydroxyl functional group, which allows for increased open time and wet-edge improvements without lowering the scrub resistance. In addition to scrub resistance, other key performance benefits include:
-
Co-dispersion efficiency
-
Neutralization
-
Color stability with the added benefit of an improved odor profile
