The advanced Jaipur foot is a microcellular Polyurethane (PU) product, which is a technological advancement from the traditional Jaipur Foot made out of vulcanized rubber.
In 2005, BMVSS approached Dow India and Pinnacle Industries (Indore) to develop this concept. Extensive research at Dow India research units led to the launch of the new Polyurethanes (PU) made foot in May 2006. Leading orthopedic experts have complemented the new foot commenting that the PU foot is preferable to rubber with additional benefits including being lightweight and more comfortable to patients.
Dow India is further working on improving the PU foot by coating a layer of cast Elastomer to increase longevity by about 100%.
