The advanced Jaipur foot is a microcellular Polyurethane (PU) product, which is a technological advancement from the traditional Jaipur Foot made out of vulcanized rubber.

In 2005, BMVSS approached Dow India and Pinnacle Industries (Indore) to develop this concept. Extensive research at Dow India research units led to the launch of the new Polyurethanes (PU) made Foot in May 2006. Leading orthopedic experts reviewed the new foot in March 2008 and were highly appreciative of the development. The PU foot was better than rubber with additional benefits of being lightweight and comfortable to patients.

Dow India is further working on improving the PU foot by coating a layer of cast Elastomer to increase longevity by about 100%.
