Transforming into a Dynamic Region

At Dow IMEA we continue to transform our future by expanding Dow’s presence through close partnerships that result in progress, prosperity and growth opportunities to a growing population of two billion people across an emerging geography of 68 countries.

Catching up with India

Nearly half of the region’s population lives in India. With more than 1.1 billion people, India’s economy is growing at a rate of approximately 10 percent. India itself is as diverse as the region at large with a multitude of languages, ethnic groups and religions co-existing in an equally diverse landscape.

Dow’s presence in India began in 1957 with the Polychem Limited joint venture. This was followed by Dow’s first representative office opening in 1963 in New Delhi. Since then, we have grown enormously in this country with the opening of three Centers of Excellence while looking to further develop and implement an advantaged manufacturing presence in the region.

Partnerships in the Middle East

With its rich feedstock reserves and a growing desire to diversify its fossil fuel revenue streams, the Middle East is a highly strategic marketplace for Dow. With a population of approximately 198 million, the Middle East’s economic activity is mainly focused on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states of Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Since the launch of Dow’s inaugural Middle East operations in 1970, the Company has expanded with commercial centers and manufacturing plants in Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, and further established its footprint through the formation of strategic joint ventures with key partners in select markets. Dow will continue to demonstrate industry leadership, technical innovation and expertise with a commitment to sustainability, corporate social responsibility and the vision to contribute to the region’s aspiration to be transformed into a global petrochemicals hub.

It is also the market where Dow has deployed its main Sub-Saharan assets. Dow’s South Africa footprint includes two manufacturing sites, five commercial centers and other facilities.
