Centers of Excellence

India has been identified as a key growth geography for Dow and is an important part of Dow’s global business strategy. Dow established three Centers of Excellence in India to strengthen the Company’s intellectual capital advantage and ability to cater to markets worldwide.

The three Centers of Excellence – which are key components of Dow strategy – established in India are:

India Engineering Center (IEC):

The India Engineering Center (IEC) provides a broad range of engineering services to Dow, including design engineering, process engineering and process automation. It is an integral part of the Engineering Solutions organization and enables Dow to consult and partner with its businesses to drive results.

IEC’s mission is to work with Dow’s businesses on world-class project execution and technology to support both existing and new assets.

Today, the IEC is home to nearly 200 employees, 90 percent of whom are experienced in engineering disciplines.

Mumbai Services Center (MSC):

The Mumbai Services Center (MSC) was established in 2006 in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to support Dow’s growth strategy and to provide transactional and operational services within Dow and to our customers.

The MSC has grown rapidly to support several Dow functions, including Customer Service; Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S); Finance; and Human Resources among many others. Currently, the MSC handles numerous operations that extend to North America, Europe and the IMEA region.

MSC has more than 500 employees and continues to expand upon the services being offered to more functions, geographies and businesses.

Global Research and Development (R&D) Center:

Will be completed by January 2009, the Global Research and Development (R&D) Center is focused on capturing the intellectual capital existing in the region.

The expanded capabilities in India will allow R&D to lead innovations in numerous fields, respond faster to local opportunities and conduct strategic research. In addition, it will help establish strategic partnerships and alliances with future industry leaders.

Currently, there are 110 scientists and research engineers at the Center (which is housed in interim facilities) who together hold more than 50 patents.

About 80 percent of employees will be Ph.D. scientists from the region.
