Dow Performance Fluids and Concentrating Solar Power (CSP)

Parabolic Mirrors

Solar energy technologies are more important today than ever before.  Among other benefits, solar technologies serve to diversify the energy supply, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, improve air quality, and offset greenhouse gas emissions.

Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) systems are in wide use across the globe today.  CSP technology uses mirrors (predominantly parabolic mirrors) to reflect and concentrate sunlight onto receivers that collect solar energy and convert it to heat.  The role of Dow Heat Transfer Fluids, such as DOWTHERM™ A, is to collect the heat energy and transport it to a power generating station.  The transported heat converts water to steam which in turn drives turbines to make electricity.  DOWTHERM™ A is a mixture of special fluids that have the high temperature stability required to collect, transport, and store heat.

DOWTHERM™ A is ideal for systems that use liquid or vapor phase heating.  Not only does Dow have the right chemistry for the application, but we also have manufacturing and logistics capabilities few others have.
