Dow Honors Winners of 2011 Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge in China Chinese Version Beijing, China - December 16, 2011 Beijing, December 14, 2011 – Dow Chemical (China) Company Limited today honored the winners of the 3rd Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge at a ceremony held at Peking University. Ten students from three teams at Peking University were recognized for their innovative research projects that offer sustainable solutions to cope with the most challenging global problems. “We’re very pleased to present this award to such outstanding students who have shown their determination to contribute to a sustainable future. These next generation scientists will use their talent and knowledge to help humanity deal with global challenges,” said Peter Sykes, President of Dow Greater China. “As a respected chemical company, Dow is committed to cultivating young scientists who are dedicated to promoting sustainability through innovation.” Dr. Deng Ya, Assistant President of Peking University and Secretary-General of the Peking University Education Foundation, expressed her sincere gratitude for Dow’s support to PKU through the program which has encouraged students to think forward to a sustainable future. She said, “Sustainable development is a crucial part of our science education. Thanks to Dow’s support, our students are able to showcase their talent, apply their knowledge, and contribute their innovations to solving real global issues.” Established in alignment with Dow’s 2015 Sustainability Goals, the Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge program aims to encourage and promote forward thinking in social and environmental responsibility, and to acknowledge the commitment and enthusiasm of the students and their university professors who work in the field of sustainability. Dow has partnered with eight universities globally – four in the United States and four in other regions of the world. Participating universities include: University of California-Berkeley, University of Cambridge, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, University of Michigan, Northwestern University, Peking University, University of São Paulo, and Tufts University. Peking University has participated in the Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge since its global commencement in 2009. Over the years, the program has attracted over 40 research project applicants pertaining to sustainability from the university.
