Paints of all types can utilize Methylene chloride as a fast, efficient drying component. Rapid-drying traffic paints have long used Methylene chloride for roadways and other high traffic areas. The low flammability of coatings based on this solvent makes them preferable to other, more flammable solvent systems. Aerosol paint formulators use it as a vapor pressure depressant and for its excellent solubility characteristics.

Because of its unique ability to penetrate, blister and lift most types of durable finishes, Methylene chloride is often the solvent of choice in industrial paint stripping, commercial furniture strippers and home paint removers.
