Dow's chlorinated organics products are used as feedstocks to manufacture these products: CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), HCFCs (hydrochlorofluorocarbons), and HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons). These products are widely used in refrigeration and air conditioning applications because of their excellent physical and thermodynamic properties. Other applications for fluorocarbons include foam blowing agents, aerosols, fluoropolymers and solvent agents. The use of CFCs as blowing and refrigerant agents continues under Montreal Protocol Article 5(1), but all Article 5(1) countries will cease CFC production by 2010. As a result HCFCs and HFCs have now replaced most CFC applications.
