Hydrochloric acid Corrosion of laundry dryer vent pipes is a common problem whenever perchloroethylene vapors are exposed to an open gas flame. At the point of combustion, perchloroethylene will break down and form hydrochloric acid vapors, that will in turn, condense on the cold vent pipes. Even a small amount in the air can cause corrosion. Correct by supplying fresh air to the open gas flame. Install air ducts from outside the building directly to the heater. The air ducts should be located as far away from the dry cleaning exhaust stack as possible. Avoid solvent spillage and storing in open containers of solvent near laundry equipment.
