Houston Hosts the National Senior Games

The 2011 National Senior Games will be held in Houston, Texas, June 16-30, 2011. The National Senior Games is the largest multi-sport event in the world for older adults. The Games will feature athletes from across the country competing in 18 medal sports and two demonstration sports. Participants are adults at least 50 years of age who have qualified for the National Games by competing successfully in their State Senior Games in 2010.

One such athlete is UCC retiree Bill Elrod of Luling, Louisiana. Bill retired from St. Charles Operations in Taft, Louisiana, and serves as the Retiree Health Ambassador for the Ever-Readys Carbide Retiree Corps chapter. This summer Bill will be competing in Race Walking and Shuffleboard.

Another Dow Senior Games athlete is Wendell Dilling of Midland, Michigan. Wendell was featured in the Second Quarter 2008 DowFriends newsletter. Although Wendell will not be attending the National Games this year, he continues to compete at the state level, and he has set his sights on Cleveland, Ohio, in 2013.
