Jim Riggs – FAMEously Healthy, Ohio Style!

Jim Riggs

Since retiring, Jim has been instrumental in caring for elder members of his family and his wife's family.

Jim Riggs, a retiree of the Dow Hanging Rock Plant in Ironton, Ohio, is a terrific example of the FAME lifestyle of total health!

He's FIT…
Jim currently holds the record for most visits to the site's Health Center. Since retiring in 1992, he averages over 300 visits a year. In addition, he walks 18 holes of golf three times a week, weather permitting. He has been very fortunate healthwise and hasn't met his deductible since 1982 when he had back surgery, and is still at his high school weight. He quit smoking his infamous cigars in 1980. He and his wife take most of their meals in their home to help control cholesterol and blood pressure.

He's ALERT…
Jim reads three papers a day, working all the crossword puzzles they offer. He is an avid sports fan supporting and rooting for the Ohio Buckeyes, Kentucky Wildcats and Marshall's Thundering Herd. Since retiring he has read over 150 books – mostly westerns and Tarzan series he inherited from his father and brother.

He's MOBILE…
Since retiring, Jim has been instrumental in caring for elder members of his family and his wife's family. He currently helps his sister and his wife's mother and aunts, helping with mowing their lawns and upkeep on their homes, plus running their errands and taking them to doctor's visits.

He's ENGAGED…
Jim took on the responsibility of preparing the G. O. R. K. (Grand Order of the Rock) for the Hanging Rock site upon Guy Hoenke's retirement. It entails finding rocks the shape of Ohio or helping them take shape, drilling them for the chain and preparing them for presentation to the lucky recipient.

He is the influence that gets his wife Pat, also a Dow Hanging Rock retiree, to participate in the health center and golf. They both enjoy travel when they can and never go far without the golf clubs in the back of the van.
