50 Years of Dow in Germany

This year, the DOW Chemical Company looks back at 50 years of successful development in Germany. Founded in 1960 using one office in Frankfurt on the Main, Dow today employs more than 6,000 people at more than 20 locations. This makes Germany DOW’s largest production site behind the USA while simultaneously counting among the Top Ten US companies in the country. Across the globe, The DOW Chemical Company employs about 52,0000 people.

– For the people – For the Region – For the Future –

This is the slogan of the German-wide anniversary campaign. DOW combines chemistry and innovation with the principles of sustainability. It thus contributes to finding a solution to the many urgent problems facing the world today. This comprises providing clean drinking water, using energy sources smartly, applying renewable energies, and increasing agricultural yields. Linking science and technology with the “Human Element” enables the company to constantly develop innovative solutions for improving the quality of life.

At its sites, DOW sets new standards regarding environmental protection and safety and it serves as an important economic partner in the regions. As employer and committed company, DOW is a strong partner to municipalities that in 2008 has provided more than 1 million euros for educational projects and for social and cultural purposes. The municipality of Baltringen, home of UPPC GmbH, has been one of the beneficiaries. DOW donated 25,000 EUR for the new construction of a kindergarten.

Across Germany, DOW sites celebrated the 50th anniversary – as did UPPC GmbH. The two CEOs of the Baltringen site, Mrs. Yue Tutt and Mr. Carsten Larsen welcomed the District Administrator of Biberach on the Riss, Mr. Dr. Heiko Schmid, the mayor of the neighbouring City of Laupheim, Mr. Rainer Kapellen, and the representatives of the Mietingen community. A short welcome speech and an exhibition familiarised the guests with the 50-year success story of The DOW Chemical Company in Germany.

District Administrator Dr. Heiko Schmid and Paul Reuter, head of the Baltringen city council, emphasised the great importance of the Baltringen site – for the people, for the region, and for the future. Both men declared their intention to continue their support of UPPC GmbH with its promising future projects.

A site tour and a Weisswurst breakfast completed the official part.

The afternoon was then fully dedicated to the employees and their families. Employees were happy to exchange thoughts and celebrate together with the sun smiling on them. Food was plenty and the youngest children never even had a chance to get bored. The two CEOs and the organisational team definitely considered it a fully successful event.
