About Finndisp

Finndisp, the polymer dispersions division of OY Focit AB, was acquired by Rohm and Haas in 2008 – now The Dow Chemical Company. The acquisition of Finndisp not only expanded the company’s extensive product portfolio, but also the Dow Coating Materials manufacturing network, increasing it to a network of more than 30 plants worldwide, with two additional plants – one in Hanko, and another under in Ramenskoye, Russia.

The Finndisp headquarters were based in Hanko, Finland, and was the premier supplier of water-based emulsions used in the manufacture of paint, coatings, lacquers and adhesives. The company’s portfolio included low temperature, high performance products specifically designed for use in Northern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, and this technology has now enhances the Dow Coating Materials water-based emulsions product line.

Finndisp had been a manufacturer of polymer dispersions since 1967 and their success and deep penetration into the Northern European and CIS markets was based on over 40 years of experience and knowledge of customer needs. Their geographic location in the northern part of Europe, by the Baltic Sea with four distinct seasons, helped Finndisp to understand what properties were needed for paints in that climate. Rapid temperature variations, snow, ice, sun and humid conditions, are all important factors to consider when designing a binder for exterior paints. Through their acquisition, Finndisp has provided Dow Coating Materials with a unique insight and the knowledge of the properties needed in such tough climates.
