Innovative, safer chemistry for making
insulation products
- Traditional
thermoset processes for manufacturing
insulation use formaldehyde to bind
fiberglass filaments. With AQUASET ™,
Rohm and Haas has replaced formaldehyde
binders and the health threat they
pose with waterborne resin binders.
Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen.
Eliminating formaldehyde emissions
in homes and buildings means a “greener,” healthier
environment.
“Crosslinking
technology”
- Waterborne
resins, the foundation for AQUASET ™,
use molecular crosslinking to make
an environmentally advanced product.
With AQUASET ™,
insulation’s fiberglass filaments
are spun from molten sand and bound
together with sprayed-on waterborne
resins that lock the fibers together
without using formaldehyde, as most
traditional insulation does.
Environmentally advanced
- AQUASET ™ is
a “greener” alternative
for insulation products made from “stable” resins
that, unlike products made with formaldehyde,
require refrigeration remain “stable.” AQUASET ™ is
stable at room temperature. Insulation
materials manufactured with formaldehyde
need refrigeration and also emit
formaldehyde, ammonia, phenol and
methanol once installed.
The “green” choice is
no compromise – it’s better
- Water-based
resins used to make AQUASET ™ -
a greener and more environmentally
advanced alternative - insulate just
as well as any formaldehyde-emitting
competitor. AQUASET ™ is a replacement
for resins made with melamine, urea
and phenolformaldehyde. More good news
is that AQUASET ™ is noncombustible,
recyclable and has earned OSHA’s
highest safety rating. It’s
also been recognized by the American
Chemical Society (ACS) for innovation.
