New Engineers Showcase Teamwork in Galveston Sandcastle Competition

Freeport, Texas - July 01, 2008

Being an engineer at Dow doesn’t mean you always spend all your time making Texas Operations reliable, safe and productive. One group of young engineers recently spent some time working with sand, salt water and sunscreen during the 2008 American Institute of Architects AIA Sandcastle Competition in Galveston.

“The team worked on the theme and design using the engineering skills we use everyday – and a few extra skills, too,” said team leader, Christine Rollins. “Members of the NPN (New Professionals Network) came together with a common goal and the results were beyond our hopes. Working at a company that allows its employees to have this much fun helps us all do better work on the job.”

The Dow Team’s design incorporated the Human Element in their “Let the Games Begin” category of the competition. They used the 2008 Olympics’ slogan, “One World, One Dream” as their theme because it represents global unity and supports Dow’s global reach.

Composed of engineers from different areas of the Company, the team spent the last few months generating ideas, developing designs, collecting supplies and assembling the form-work in preparation for the competition. The event proved to be more then just fun; it was a great team building and networking opportunity as well.
