Texas Operations Receives ACC - Energy Efficiency Award

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) recognized Dow Texas Operations for its achievement in energy efficiency as it received a Responsible Care® Energy Efficiency Award – Exceptional Merit for 2007.

Dow Texas Operations was recognized in the Energy Efficiency Program-Plant Site category for energy efficiency improvement. A total of 16 companies were recognized in five categories: Energy Efficiency Program, Significant Improvement in Manufacturing, Environmental Impact, Non-Manufacturing Improvement and Public Outreach.

Dow Texas Operations has demonstrated an Energy Intensity reduction of 7.5% since 2004, with a 3.7% reduction in 2007. Along with this energy efficiency improvement, the site reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 303,000 tons in 2007. Nevertheless, Dow Texas Operations has demonstrated its commitment to energy efficiency and the local community by implementing innovative practices, procedures and processes,” said Jack N. Gerard, president and CEO of the American Chemistry Council. “Saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our own operations is one of the chemistry industry’s key goals. At the same time, our advanced materials help the entire U.S. economy be more energy efficient.”

ACC presented a total of 45 awards to companies for their company-wide or plant-specific progress. Individual ACC member companies nominate specific projects for recognition under the Award Program. The judging committee which determined the winners is comprised of selected members of ACC’s Energy Team.

The Responsible Care® Energy Efficiency Awards program is one of ACC’s many ongoing initiatives to improve energy efficiency. These projects have the added benefit of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and help implement energy efficiency improvements.
