Employees Find Innovative Way to Lower Fuel Costs by $4MM

Freeport, Texas - July 01, 2008

The extreme rise in domestic energy prices might soon be a bit less of a challenge for Dow Texas Operations, thanks to a group of Dow employees who applied their innovative spirit to identify a near-term, energy- and cost-saving solution. Xavier Garcia, Clint Burleigh and Nelson Razo, shift operators at the Power 9 plant, recently identified a way to improve and reduce fuel gas utilization through the optimization of hydrogen, ultimately lowering the site’s fuel gas bill by nearly $4 million per year. “This is a fantastic outcome, and in light of the recent rise of fuel gas costs in the United States, projects like this can go a long way toward boosting the competitiveness of U.S.-based sites like Texas Operations,” said Gary Hockstra, vice president and site director, Texas Operations. “I applaud this team for taking the initiative to investigate and identify this potential cost-saving solution.” The trio’s hard work and dedication ultimately may result in an estimated financial savings of more than $3 million per year.
