Starting Up at Dow Texas OperationsFreeport, TX - September 27, 2005 As Dow Texas Operations starts returning to normal operations, nearby residents may see flaring at the site and hear plants testing horns and the purging of steam lines. "As our site's plants start to come up along with other chemical facilities in the area, residents are going to be seeing and hearing things that are part of the normal process of starting up plants," said Linda Bartholome, Responsible Care Leader for Dow Texas Operations. "If anyone has concerns about noises and odors related to the chemical industry, we encourage them to call 238-CAER." Hydrocarbon plants at Texas Operations may begin flaring as early Wednesday, September 28 as those facilities work toward starting up. There could also be some flaring Thursday, September 29 and Friday, September 30. Flaring is the controlled combustion of industrial gases and is used at oil and petrochemical facilities. It is an essential safety measure that protects our employees, the community and our facility by preventing the direct release of hydrocarbon gases into the atmosphere. Burning converts the gases into common substances such as carbon dioxide and water vapor. This is safer and more environmentally responsible than releasing them directly into the atmosphere. Texas Operations apologizes for any inconvenience that our flaring may cause.
