Dow Texas Operations Releases 2004 Public Report

Freeport, TX - July 15, 2005

The Dow Texas Operations 2004 Public Report can now be viewed at www.dowtexasoperations.com.

"Earlier this month, we mailed the 2004 Public Report to our neighbors to inform them of our performance and community activities last year," said Bob Walker, Vice President of Dow Texas Operations. "The web version of the report features even more information about our site. Both publications enable out community to better understand what is going on at Texas Operations."

Dow Texas Operations 2004 Public Report Highlights

  • 2004 represents both the lowest OSHA recordable rate in the history of Dow Texas Operations and more importantly the least number of people injured. Last year, the site had an injury and illness rate of 0.52 incidents per every 200,000 work hours - an 81 percent improvement since 1994.

  • A production record for the site was established in 2004, which surpassed the previous best year in 2003 by more than seven percent.

  • There has been a 49 percent reduction in chemical emissions since 1994.

  • Loss of primary containment (LOPC) incidents such as leaks, breaks and spills have been reduced by more than 78 percent since 1994.

  • Dow Texas Operations donated $1.7 million to local and state-wide non-profit organizations and local public schools.

The report focuses on environmental stewardship, corporate social responsibility and economic prosperity. It also includes a letter from Walker, information on the site's Community Advisory Panel and Dow Texas Operations' financial impact.

The Dow Texas Operations report is one of 21 local reports produced by Dow in addition to its sixth global Public Report, which was recently released. All Dow Public Reports are available at www.dowpublicreport.com. As part of the company's efforts to increase transparency, the web site includes additional information on key operating and performance data from Dow and its 21 manufacturing sites.
