Dow Employees Raise More than $800,000 for the United WayFreeport, TX - November 04, 2004 They did it! Again! The employees of Dow Texas Operations’ giving streak continued this year with more than $800,000 being raised for the United Way campaign. Since the 1988 campaign, employees have raised more than $18 million for local aid agencies. A majority of the money will be donated to the United Way of Brazoria County. Some employees choose to send their donations to other United Way chapters. “Dow employees have once again shown how much they care about their neighbors,” said Bob Walker, vice president of Dow Texas Operations. “Through the United Way campaign and their countless volunteer hours, Dow Texas Operations employees continue to show that they want to make our community a better place.” Dow employees represent about four percent of the working adults in Brazoria County, but account for more than 30 percent of the revenues raised by the United Way of Brazoria County. This year’s campaign was helped by an employee online auction which raised $3,105 and a raffle for a 20 x 40 barbeque pit which raised $4,360. The pit was donated by Dow's Epoxy Products & Intermediates Manufacturing Implementation Team. “We continue to get great support from employees across our site,” said Kevin Land, United Way campaign chairperson. “We’re able to help meet the needs of our community through the generous contributions our employees make to the United Way. I wish to thank them all.” The United Way is a strategic partner of Dow, providing help for those in need, while improving the quality of life for the community. From meals and activities for children and senior citizens to helping adults learn to read, the United Way helps neighbors and friends in need.
