Dow Texas MS 150 TeamThey're peddling for a cure. For the past nine years, Dow employees and retirees have ridden their bikes from Houston to Austin in the MS 150 to raise money to fight the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis (MS) and increase awareness of MS symptoms and the important new treatments available. The 2003 team consisted of 241 cyclists and 53 volunteers made up mostly by Dow employees from around Texas and their family and friends. Other Dow team members flew in from Michigan and The Netherlands. "There is nothing more exhilarating than leaving Houston on a bright April morning with more than 9,000 other cyclists as you set out on a two-day quest to reach Austin," said Lloyd Colegrove, captain of the Dow Texas MS 150 Team. "There is nothing more agonizing than being at Mile 90 on that same day, struggling up yet another hill, knowing that rest and relief are still five miles away. The MS 150 is a ride of extremes, but then MS, ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), and all other neurological diseases are illnesses of extremes."
As the largest MS 150 tour in North America, the Houston to Austin MS 150 attracts more than 9,000 cyclists and 2,000 volunteers. For more information on MS 150s in Texas go to their website. |
