March 2004 CAP MeetingThe Community Advisory Panel (CAP) to Dow Texas Operations recently held its March meeting. Jim Overman, Texas Operation's Site Risk Management Plan (RMP) Coordinator, explained that the purpose of Dow's RMP is risk management and plan development for potential 'worst case' events through the institution of safe design, training and redundancy for Dow plants. Dow is a leader in the chemical industry for strict design specifications, state-of-the-art control systems, redundant controls and safe guards, maintenance programs and the emergency response Community Awareness & Emergency Response program. Doyle Haney, production leader for Polymeric MDI, discussed the construction of the plant. Haney said there was a multi-level approach to designing a safe PMDI plant through hardware, software, and management systems. The plant design was completed in December 2001 with start-up projected for fall of 2004. PMDI is used in a multitude of products, including automobile parts. Dow also discussed its pledge of $517,000 to Brazosport Memorial Hospital for the new maternity and imaging centers and $150,000 for the Brazoria County Association for Citizens with Handicaps building expansion campaign. |
