In 2007, approximately 600 Dow and contract employee volunteers gave more than 20,000 hours to support more than 50 area community projects. This outstanding volunteerism was recently honored at a special HUey Awards ceremony held at the Dow Conference Center on February 14th.
The star-studded luncheon event began with LAO's Volunteer "Stars" arriving on the Red Carpet and being interviewed by celebrity hosts Stacey Chiasson and Gary Cambre. Following the Red Carpet event, the Volunteer "Stars" then attended the HUey Award Ceremony.
The HUey's were named after Dow’s Human Element - HU periodic table symbol. The ceremony even featured a guest appearance on video by Dow CEO Andrew Liveris...who commended all LAO volunteers for their efforts to be the Human Element of Dow.
Although several "tongue-in-cheek" categories were awarded, all the volunteers at the event were truly winners for their willingness to volunteer their time to help their surrounding communities.
“Dow’s Human Element comes to life through the contributions that our volunteers make each day to help the world be a better place to live –through our products, our innovation and most importantly, our passion,” LAO Public Affairs Leader Stacey Chiasson said. “Whether it’s building a house for Habitat for Humanity, teaching a Junior Achievement lesson in a local school, or handling household hazardous materials for clean up day, you can count on our volunteers. That’s what sets Dow apart.”
