Louisiana 3rd District Congressman Charlie Melancon visited Dow’s Grand Bayou Operations recently to give an update on congressional issues to Dow employees and members of the Assumption Parish Community.

The meeting was hosted at the GBO Visitor Center. Melancon addressed a variety of issues that are now being discussed in congress. He said one issue that is especially important to the chemical industry is America's need toward becoming energy dependent.

Melancon said he wants to push for the expansion of offshore oil drilling. He said, "If we don't become energy dependent and control the costs of natural gas...the basis for our chemical industry...then we may lose many good jobs. That's why I'm trying to impress upon my colleagues in congress the importance of the energy bill. It's a bill for employees and employers and will help us keep good jobs in this country.

Following his update presentation, Melancon answered a variety of questions and then visited with the community guests and Dow employees and leadership at the event.
