Dow recently received the Innovative Community Outreach Award from the Safety Council of Louisiana Capital Area for its annual Door-to-Door event that takes place at three of its Louisiana facilities. Dow representatives from its Grand Bayou Operations near Napoleonville, Louisiana Operations in Plaquemine and St. Charles Operations near Hahnville were presented with the award at the Safety Council’s Annual Meeting held on March 8.
“Dow is committed to the safety of our surrounding communities and this is just one of the many ways we strive to communicate safety messages to our neighbors,” Louisiana Operations’ Site Leader Lee Trusty said. “We will continue to hold this annual event to keep this important line of communication open so that neighbors can be kept up to date on emergency preparedness.”
During Dow’s annual Door-to-Door event, more than 140 employee volunteers visit nearly 3,000 near neighbors as a way to get to know them better and provide information about Dow and emergency preparedness and response. The effort began as a way to ensure that near neighbors had a better understanding of what they should do in case of a chemical emergency. These annual visits are in concert with the local emergency preparedness and response agencies. Each resident receives a bag containing a packet of information, contact numbers for future reference, and a small Dow gift.
