Thousands of Iberville, West Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge area residents turned out on April 22nd to safely dispose of their used household hazardous materials at Household Hazardous Materials Day held by Dow, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the East Baton Rouge City Parish.  Collection sites were located at the Wal-Mart in Plaquemine and Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Dow employee volunteers helped collect and safely dispose of several hundred-thousand pounds of household hazardous waste from over 1,100 area residents that attended.  This marked the 23rd Household Hazardous Material Collection Day since 1985 when the program began.

Dow, DEQ, and other area recyclers collected fertilizers, pool chemicals, insecticides, pesticides, cleaning products, household cleaners, waste tires, fluorescent light bulbs, used motor oil, computers, paint, and other common household products that contain hazardous materials and should not be disposed in landfills.
