| Students at Sharon Baptist Academy and Chamberlain Elementary School receive gift bags after learning fire and home safety from local fire departments and first responders. This event, sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company, is held throughout the month of October to teach children the importance of fire and home safety. |
On Thursday, October 27, 2005, over 200 students at Sharon Baptist Academy and Chamberlain Elementary School were taught fire, home and street safety by firefighters, first responders, sheriff’s deputies and a fireman in turnout gear. The students were given a first hand look into fire and home safety and were entertained by Sparky, the fire dog.
Each year between October 1st and 31st the volunteers from the Rosehill Volunteer Fire Department go to local schools to teach the children in the surrounding district the importance of fire and home safety. This 20-year-old program provides children with a first hand look at fire trucks, pumper trucks, ladder trucks and a safety trailer.
Fire Chief “Deano” Moran led off the speakers with lessons in home safety, followed by Fire Chief Bert Laprairie. Deputies Sonny Massey and Wanda Weber discussed the importance of home and street safety with the children. The children were treated to a display of fire fighting equipment and given a tour of the safety “smokehouse” trailer and even left with a treat bag.
This event was made possible by the local fire departments, sheriff’s office, all the volunteers and The Dow Chemical Company.
