Dow Employees Volunteer for Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

Louisiana - September 14, 2005

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, many Dow Louisiana Operations (LAO) employees are offering their hands and their hearts towards many relief efforts throughout our communities - volunteering their personal time in shelters, sharing their home with displaced friends and family, and taking part in many donation drives to help evacuees.

The Dow Plaquemine employees launched a site-wide effort to collect needed items for five area shelters in Assumption, Iberville and West Baton Rouge Parishes.

"In just one week, LAO employees donated more than 100 boxes of needed supplies," said the LAO site leader. "Our employees are going above and beyond the call of community service as they tirelessly work to provide food, supplies and assistance in local shelters and to recovery and relief efforts."

Other Outreach Activities
To assist in the New Orleans area recovery efforts, LAO donated 850 Super Sacks to the Army Corps of Engineers to repair levee breaches, while Dow's aviation crew has provided medical supplies and staff to impacted parishes.

Additionally, LAO employees have supported relief efforts in the local community with monetary donations for school supplies and uniforms for displaced children. Dow also worked with employees to coordinate donations of armbands, crutches, plumbing supplies, earplugs, ice, and hot water heaters for the Iberville Parish shelter. LAO has built portable bathrooms for three West Baton Rouge Parish shelters and loaned the Dow tent to provide comfort for those receiving assistance at the Plaquemine Food Stamp office.
