Louisiana Operations Employees Cook Jambalaya Lunch for St. Charles Operations

Volunteers from Dow's Louisiana Operations in Plaquemine came in the week after the storm to St. Charles Operations in Hahnville to cook enough pots of jambalaya to provide lunch for everyone at the site-more than 2,000 employees and contract employees.

Volunteers from Dow's Louisiana Operations in Plaquemine arrived at St. Charles Operations in Hahnville, La., at 4 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9th, to begin cooking enough pots of jambalaya to provide lunch for fellow workers at the site.

More than 2,000 employees were served a "home-cooked" meal by about 30 of their Dow Louisiana neighbors. One Dow Plaquemine volunteer said, "We wanted to come down and cook a hot meal for our friends at St. Charles Operations who have gone through so much as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Our time and effort was just a very small gesture that we hope will help brighten their day a bit during this time."

The hot food and friendly smiles went a long way in warming the hearts of St. Charles employees.

"These Dow Plaquemine folks have touched a lot of lives here," said St. Charles site change leader. "It's more than food - it's knowing we have friends and support from others during this difficult time. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who had a part in making the jambalaya lunch a reality. We all have a lot to be thankful for."

LAO employees also provided 300 hot meals for Red Cross relief workers and volunteers, as well as Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries through the Capital Area United Way Jambalaya Cook-off recently.
